Christi’s progressive leadership, vision and people skills advanced California almond production, environmental stewardship and honey bee health. She was a friend, well liked, and respected by folks in almonds, beekeeping and the research community and could initiate new programs and get things done with the “art of friendly persuasion”. An illustration of Christi’s progressive vision was her leadership on honey bee nutrition, in particular supplemental forage and cover crops, with Project Apis m., the Seeds for Bees Program and the Almond Board of California. Supplemental forage is a “win-win” for bees and almonds. as she said, “Supplemental forage provides bees natural nutrition with health benefits before and after almond bloom when there is a dearth of pollen and provides significant horticultural benefits for almonds.” Christi will be greatly missed by many.
